A Sikh student from Newmarket, Ontario is being celebrated for speaking out and sparking change.
Karanveer Singh Anand 13, is a Grade 8 student of The York Region School Board which is Ontario's third-largest school board.
Singh, was creating his avatar for virtual school, he noticed that the head covering he wears wasn’t an option.
Singh said "Since I am Sikh so I wear a patka and that basically a cloth that you tie around your head to cover it, there really wasn’t anything like that (the patka) in the pixten avatar editor, I was pretty disappointed and sad,".
His teacher Miss Angel also noticed that his avatar didn’t represent sikh culture so she emailed to Pixten to fix the problem.
Jared Shaw Product Manager Pixton said "we learnt something... sometimes we miss something cause we don’t know about it and our users come back to us."
He added "So we tried to get it (new avatars) in there to make sure everybody it represents".
Soon after the grade 8 student was pleased to see these options.
Responding on getting a new avatar that actually looks like him Singh said he was very happy after making a difference and to make his culture shine brigtly.
