Sikh Family’s Murder in US: Shock Waves to Entire India

Abduction and death of four family members including 8 month old baby girl let the whole India & US in grief. Jasdeep Singh(36), his wife Jasleen Kaur(27), their daughter Aroohi and brother Amandeep Singh(38) were kidnapped on 3rd oct from the family's trucking business in Merced, California, and their bodies were discovered on 5th Oct in the remote area of a farm.

Jesus Manuel Salgado, also a former convict, was formally charged with four murders and kidnappings and booked into the Merced County jail. He was seen in a video taking away the four victims. He was also jailed previously for robbing a family at gunpoint 17 years ago.

The city of Merced conducted four days of evening candlelight vigils from 6th to 9th Oct in memory of the family. It also issued a statement that "Merced stands with the Sikh community".

Meanwhile bishop P K Samantaroy of Church of North India’s Amritsar has requested the US government to protect the Indians in America.

The bishop said “It was unfortunate that Indians had been the most common targets of American hate crime despite their noteworthy contribution to the US academia and economy. He said: “We request the US government for enacting stronger laws for the security of all ethnicities, including Indians in America.”
